Brass band chant! The cenotaph was built to commemorate a war that ended nearly 90 years ago. Today those who gathered there were remembering not just old soldiers who gave their lives but a new generation making the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

It's very fashion for every sailer that and every marine out there today. They know someone or they know someone in their unite who has been there and donate and perhaps not come home.

Today, as it has since the end of the first world war the 11th hour marks the 2 minutes silence.

The queen as always laid the first wreath and later Prince William, a soldier himself. One of his closest friend/ was killed in Iraq among the 254 to have died there and in Afganistan.

Traditionally this ceremony is associated with honoring those who fell in the great battles of the past. But there is a new poignancy / now with so many military personnel losing their lives in conflicts that are still going on.

At winter serve, Prince Henry took part in the military parade, he wanted to go to Iraq but was not allowed. In Iraq itself serving soldiers pay their tribute to friends lost there as well as the fallen from other wars.

And back in White Hall they marched as they do every year, an occasion made no less painful with the passing of time.
