首先声明，我用的是debian linux,我想基于debian的ubuntu发行版应该也差不多
最关键的是linux默认的是utf-8编码格式，而windows下的基本上是gbk编码。
所以为了同步，我把linux默认的也改为gbk了。
首先终端下输入
sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales

勾选要用到的字符编码，以我的为例

我选了en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8
zh_CN GB2312
zh_CN.GB18030 GB18030
zh_CN.GBK GBK

下一步就是问系统默认的编码格式了，这里我选zh_CN.GBK
完成后重启下系统运行gftp什么都不用设置都不出现乱码了。
远程看到的和本地下下来的都没乱码了。
逐磨了有好久了。有效的帮我顶个哈。

lz能不能把解决中文登录名不能用的问题 的办法找出来阿？？？
我用英文用户名进去了，中文目录也不是乱码，，，可就是不能用中文用户名登录FTP。。。。晕阿

This is not a good solution.
Because all the software under Linux are designed to support UTF-8 instead of GBK.

There is a better FTP client named Filezilla, which can support all the charactor code including UTF-8, GBK, GB2312, GB18030..

I am using Fedora 8, and this software is runing perfectly in my system...
