The British sailors and marines released by Iran say their captors used trickery and mind games to get them to cooperate during their captivity. Now home in England they say the Iranian Revolutionary Guard knew they were in Iraqi waters when they were seized. One described the treatments they received after their capture are threats made against them.

Meanwhile, it looks like thousands of National Guard members are about to get ordered back to Iraq. A senior Defense Department official says several National Guard brigades are expected to be sent to Iraq starting around the first of the year. One brigade equals about 3,500 troops. That means more than 10,000 National Guard members could be headed over. According to that official, Defense Secretary Robert Gates is expected to sign off fairly soon.

A third man is now in custody in connection with the deadly shootout in which a FBI agent was gun down. New Jersey state police say they arrested the suspect early this morning near the Wellington Bank where the shooting happened yesterday. Authorities say the man was caught up when he tried to get into a woman’s car. The FBI also says agent Berry Li Bush may have been killed by friendly fire, fire from one of the other agents during the shootout. Bush was tracking the three suspects who are believed to be responsible for a string of bank robberies.

A new study says a Mediterranean diet is good for kids. The diet is rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts, and olive oil. A study of children on the island of Crete found those who ate the most fresh fruit and nuts were least likely to suffer from allergies. The report is published in the Journal, \.

Former First Lady Betty Ford is said to be doing well today after \ surgery. Mrs. Ford's office did not reveal what kind of surgery she had earlier this week. She is recovering at the Eisenhower Medical Center in \, California. Mrs Ford turns / 89 on Sunday.
