The D901iS is the second Mitsubishi mobile phone based on Symbian OS and built for the FOMA? 3G network offered by NTT DoCoMo in Japan.

It features mobile wallet (i-mode felica) with a lockable IC card, an enhanced security feature which allows the handset to be locked.

New in the D901iS is the PDF viewer allowing users to view PDF files that can be downloaded from i-mode sites at any time, such as maps, catalogs, and timetables. All the usual features of PDF viewers are supported, including zoom and rotate. Also supported are i-mode links (web-to, mail-to and phone-to).

The D901iS features an autofocus 2 megapixel super CCD honeycomb? camera, capable of recording 4 megapixel images. You can focus on your subject and then compose your image using the focus lock function. The D901iS has a large 2.4 inch LCD screen and using the “FOMA plus area”, you can also switch between voice calls and video calls.

The D901iS started shipping in NTT DoCoMo shops in Japan on June 10 2005.

The FOMA? D702i from Mitsubishi for NTT DoCoMo’s 3G FOMA is the first NTT DoCoMo model to offer a timed keylock meaning that the handset is automatically locked after a pre-set period of time if there has been no activity.

The D702i also ensures that emails sent to the phone while it is out of network range are automatically delivered to the phone when it comes back into a service area.

The 702i handsets are equipped for i-channel, which automatically delivers updated news, weather, entertainment, sports and horoscopes via teletype to the standby screen.

All 702i models are preinstalled with G-GUIDE? EPG Remote Control, an i-appli application that downloads program listings for both terrestrial digital and analog TV broadcasts. Using the phone like a remote control, the information can be used to program DVD recorders and other A/V equipment.

This is the first 702i series to offer an automatic Security Scan function, which downloads security updates to the phone as and when they become availiable from DoCoMo.

FOMA? D701i manufactured by Mitsubishi for NTT DoCoMo’s FOMA 3G network is the third phone from Mitsubishi to utilize the capabilities offered by Symbian OS.

At only 104g, the D701i is one of the lightest Symbian OS-enabled phones in the Japanese market. The phone has easy to read, large icons and letters as well as “Emotional” lighting - a flashing light that alerts the user using color and lights when someone is calling.  

FOMA D701i handsets will be compatible with the i-channel service and all standard FOMA services and functions, including videophone, ChakuUta? ring songs, ChakuMotion? ring videos, Deco-mail? decorative emails, i-appli? JAVA? and Macromedia? Flash? applications.

For a fee, users can receive automatic telop text news and information, which will be updated about every two hours. i-channel users can also add their own channels, which means any information provider can join the i-channel system.

A small window on the outside of the handset allows the user to view i-channel contents such as weather, headlines, stock market information, news and other channel content as a scrolling headlines even when the phone is closed.

The D701i also comes with an anti-bacterial treatment that helps to keep the phone clean and hygienic.

iC Transfer Service enables nearly all data on the IC card to be transferred to a new phone (315 yen per usage including tax).

Stored data, such as phone numbers and photos, can be transferred via IC card by holding one handset up to another.

Improved ToruCa functions, such as capturing coupons and other promotional data directly from QR codes. Also, after the phone communicates with the in-store reader/writer, previously saved data is automatically displayed on the phone. The reader/writer also deletes expired ToruCa promotions automatically.

The SO903i is preinstalled with software for DoCoMo's DCMX mobile credit card on DoCoMo's iD platform. The number of iD readers/writers reached 60,000 (as of the end of September) and the number of DCMX subscribers topped 860,000 (as of October 11).

Enhanced security
Keitai-Osagashi Service enables users to locate misplaced handsets using GPS technology by accessing the My DoCoMo portal for PCs (free until June 30, 2007, after which there will be a charge of 315 yen per usage including tax).

Omakase Lock and Data Security Service. The former enables users who lose their phone to call a 24-hour call center to have the phone's smart card and personal data locked immediately, and the latter allows phonebooks to be stored on the DoCoMo network.

GPS services
imadoco search is a location service enabling people to use their phones to monitor the precise location of designated persons, such as children, via i-mode or PC.

Preinstalled i-appli navigation software detects users' locations in order to guide them to where they want to go.

Periodic monitoring of designated people using GPS contents.

Business mopera GPS Location enables companies to use DoCoMo's FOMA network in order to have third-parties, such as security companies, track the location of designated people using GPS.

Notification of the caller's precise location when making an emergency call to police, fire department or Japan Coast Guard, beginning April 2007 in some areas and eventually to be extended nationwide.

The SO903i is compatible with DoCoMo's WORLD WING international roaming service via W-CDMA networks in 34 countries/regions, mainly in Europe.

Upgraded mail
Up to 10 files totaling 2MB (increased from 500KB) can be attached to mail, including files created with Microsoft? Word or Excel. It is not possible to inspect Word and Excel files by the SO903i.

Deco-mail capacity has been increased to enable text mail of up to 10,000B and animated icons of up to 90KB resulting in Deco-mails up to about 100KB. Also, the number of these icons for one message has been increased from 10 to 20.

New Deco-mail Pictograms include more than 240 20x20-dot animated icons preinstalled in the SO903i. These high-resolution icons can be easily inserted into messages using the same simple procedure for conventional icons. Additional icons can be downloaded in a batch using the Deco-mail Pictogram Pocket function available with the SO903i.

Enhanced PushTalk service
During a PushTalk walkie-talkie session, other people can be called up and the caller can automatically redial people who did not respond the first time. Automatic speaker phone mode is also possible.

Enhanced i-channel news and information service displays captioned text for basic and favorite channels.
