Our top story this hour Iraqi officials say a car bomb attack at a bus station in the Shiite holy city of Cabla has killed at least 40 people and wounded more than 50 others. Say television showed rescue workers evacuating casualties. The attack took place about 200 meters from the Emam Husein shrine, one of the most sacred / of Shiite Islam. Elsewhere police say a car bomb blast on a southern Baghdad breach killed at least 10 people and wounded 14 others. It was the second attack on the major bridge in Baghdad this week. On Thursday a suicide truck bomb collapsed bridge in northern Baghdad, killing at least 6 people and sending several cars plunging into the Taigus river. Well meanwhile Iraqi lawmakers returned to a shattered building Friday following Thursday's bombing that left a number of people dead inside the cafeteria where the parliament meets. With more on that part of the story here is the VOA's M.
The umbrella group calling its south of Islamic state of Iraq sent a statement posted on the website that was responsible for Thursday's suicide attack on the parliament cafeteria in the heavily guarded green zone. The group said one of the heros of the M. brigade infertrated the area. And a statement Friday morning the US military set up further research on consultation with government of Iraqi officials. It have determined that only one civilian has been killed in the attack, and 22 wounded. Many legislators returned to the convention center Friday where their colleague Mohamoud al-Ward, a Sunni Arab deputy from the National Dialogue Party was killed. The lawmakers offered prayers for the dead and called for Iraqi unity, and investigation into the attack is under way. And now on to Afghanistan where authorities say a suicide bomber blew himself up outside police station in eastern Afghanistan, killing at least 8 officers and wounding several others. Police say the blast occured today in coast province in an area near the eastern border with Pakistan. On Friday NATO officials said one British soldier was killed and 2 others wounded in the gun battle with Teliban militants in southern H. province. Last year Afghanitan expericenced the highest number rebel attacks since the Teliban was ousted from power by the US-led coalation in 2004. NATO forces are preparing for another upsurging violence this year, have already launched an operation in the south to preempt and anticipated offensive by Teliban fighters.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon is sending his top legal advicer to Lebanan to try to break the stallmate preventing creation of tribunal to try suspects in former Prime Minister A. K.'s assassination. VOA's correspondent Peter H. has details from UN headquarters in New York.
The Secretary General told Security Council and ambassidors Friday, he is sending Under-Secretary General for legal affairs Necolor Mesha to Beirut to persuade Lebanese leaders to approve the Hariri tribunal. " I sincerely hope that his visit near hope, the political leaders / Lebanon in their efforts to perceed consitutional procedures to ratify, so that the special tribunal can be established as soon as possible."
Creation of the Hawarry assasination tribunal is up the center of the Lebanon's worst political turmoil in decades. The Foreign Prime Minister and 22 others were killed in a Beirut bomb attack in Feburary 2005. Nigerians go to the polls today to vote for state officials that held next Saturday's presidential election. Observers say the outcome of today's voting for state governors and legislators will be an indication how Nigerians will vote on the presidential ballot.
