At a news conference in Baghdad today lawmakers N. said the group was pulling out Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki Unity government and was demanding a timetable for the US to withdraw its troops. The White House and Congress are studying to look beyond the current impasse of legislation to fund the Iraq war. VOA's Polly Wopson reports that both sides are studying to talk about ways to resolve the contraversy.
The Democratic majority in the House and Senate, wants the 100 billion dollars funding bill to contain language that will spell out a timetable for the withdrawal of US troops in Iraq. The President says that is unacceptable. Mr. Bush says the Democratic Party leadership in Congress is pressing a heavy / legislation to make a political point. In an interview broadcast Sunday on CBS television program "Facing the Nation" Vice President Dick Chiny predicted the Democrats will back down. "I don't think the majority of Democrats in the Congress will leave Americans fighting forces in arms way without the resources they need." The Vice President says Wednesday's White House meeting to discuss the impasse will give each side an opportunity to better understand the other's position. Polly Wapson, VOA news, the White House.

At the end of the five-day trip to Sudan, US deputy Secretary of State John Negreponty said that Sudan needs their larger joint United Nations and African Union peacekeeping force with the single unified command to improve the situation in Dafur.
