BBC world news, I'm S.G

The head of the British army has said the presence of British troops in Iraq is exacerbating the security problems in the country. In an interview with a London's newspaper The Daily Mail, General Sir Richard Donald said British forces should be withdrawn from Iraq soon. He said the tolerance people in southern Iraq initially had for the British troops had now turns to intolerance. Here is our defense and security correspondent R.

In the interview Sir Richard Donald describes the presence of British troops as making the security problems worse. He says as a foreigner you can be welcome in a Muslim country, but the British troops were hardly invited there. "Let's face it", he says, "the military campaign we fought in 2003 effectively kicked the door room." He goes on to say that whatever concerns that may have existed at the beginning of the invasion has now largely turn to intolerance, and that Britain should get itself out of Iraq sometime soon.

The United States says a Red Cross delegation has met to the alleged mastermind of the September the 11th attacks in 2001 at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp. The US Defense Department said the meeting with H M was one of fourteen held this week by the delegation with allegedly important Al-Qaede prisoners at the camp on Cuba.

Turkey has condemned the preliminary vote by the French parliament in favor of making it a crime to deny that Turk's committed genocide against Armenians 90 years ago. Ankara said the vote was irresponsible and doubted a heavy blow to relations between the two countries. The BBC Turkey correspondent says it's also a popular anger because the move is seen as an attempt to blacken the country's image. The French government said it would try to stop the bill becoming law while the Turkish chief negotiator in EU membership talks Alibaba John said that the bill contradicted to the Union’s core values.

"What's happening in France is now going to raise a lot of questions, not only in Turkey but also in others countries about the European Union values, fundamental rights, Democracy, freedoms, rule law floor and what happened in France today we believe is also not in line with the core values of the European Union."

Hours after the vote, the Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk won the Nobel Prize for Literature. In the past, the Turkish government has prosecuted him for discussing the deaths of Armenians. But news of the Prize prompted the government in Ankara to congratulate.

The United States is continuing to seek the support of China and Russia for the tough sanctions it wants to impose on North Korea over Pyongyang's reported nuclear test on Monday. Beijing and Moscow have asked for more time to consider a draft American resolution, fearing that it could eventually lead to the use of military force. China is also worried about introducing inspections of all shipments into and out of from North Korea. From the UN in New York, L reports.
At the first Security Council gathering, the Chinese and Russian said that they needed more time to consider the proposals. China sent a senior envoy to Washington for talks with President Bush, another envoy will go on to Moscow on Saturday. Neither China nor Russia wants anything which might lead to the collapse of the regime in Pyongyang. China was particularly worried that the proposals to inspect cargo going into and out of the country for evidence of weapons of mass destruction could spark a confrontation with North Korea. And China doesn't want sanctions to be enforced by Chapter seven of the UN Charter which they say holds out the threat of military force.

You are now listening to the world news from the BBC.

The authorities in Saudi Arabia say that Muslims attending this year Haunch pilgrimage in December must possess a certificate proving they have been immunized against polio if they come from one of four countries where the disease is endemic. They say the requirement of ex-people from Nigeria, India, Afghanistan and Pakistan. A Saudi Deputy Health Minister Doctor YBA told the BBC that Muslims should face no problems in getting their certificates for the Haunch.
"Fortunately the vaccine is so cheap that it doesn't cost much. And it's available everywhere in Nigeria because Nigeria is holding more and more campaigns for vaccinating their children against poliomyelitis."

A Former governor of American state of Virginia Mark W has announced he won't seek the Democratic Party's presidential nomination in 2008.
