The top American military spokesman in Iraq General William Coldwell says major security plan for Baghdad is not meeting expectations and new strategy may be needed. General Coldwell said that despite deploying thousands of extra US and Iraqi troops over the past two months the number of the attacks in Iraqi capital has increased .At latest violence at least 50 people have died across Iraq. Andy N reports from Baghdad.

But as many failed, violence is also increasing in the areas where US troops were removed from including Muslim in northern Iraq where there were six separate suicide bomb attacks during the day.

The NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer has called for urgent investment to develop the economy of Afghanistan . Speaking in London he said by improving security NATO had created an window of opportunity and it was now time that put it for the United Nations, the World Bank ,the European Union and non-governmental organizations to raise their gain .

Security officials in Britains say they believe that Al-Qaeda has regrouped along the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. And it's once again able to recruit new members communicate internationally indirect attacks. Officials say that Britain is now Al-Qaeda's primary target. With details here are our defense and security correspondent Rob Watson.

Parliament in Portugal has agreed to hold another referendum on legalizing abortion in the first ten weeks of pregnancy. Currently abortion is only be carried out if a women has been raped or her life is in danger. A.R report from Lisbon.

The Portuguese elector have chances to vote on the abortion reform in 1998. But fewer than one third of voters turned out and proposal to allow abortion in the first ten weeks of pregnancy was narrowly defeated. This time the socialist party has promised to take a much more active part in the process and Prime Minister has come out strongly in favor of the reform . The referendum is expected to take place early next year. Those campaigning for change hoped that a string of cases in recent years in which women were prosecuted for having abortion only narrowly avoiding jail sentences have concentrated voter's minds.

The Guatemala's Foreign Minister G has said his country 's prepared to withdraw its candidacy for a non permanence seat on the UN Security Council .But only in favor what he called consensus candidate. The UN General Assembly has been holding votes since Monday to choose between Guatemala and Venezuela. But Guatemala has regularly polled most votes but neither countries obtained the two thirds majority needed to win the seat .
