Canadian singer Avril Lavigne has taken an unprecedented step to connect with her international fans -- recording the chorus of her new song Girlfriend in eight different languages.

"Avril put a lot of effort into this," said Terry McBride, Lavigne's manager. "She wanted to do it right and she didn't want somebody else singing her songs."

Lavigne recorded the single in Mandarin, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, Italian and English.
