The former chief executive of the collapsed Enron Energy Corporation Jeffery Skilling has been sentenced to 24 years in jail, for his part in one of the biggest corporate scandals in American history. He'd been found guilty of conspiracy and fraud. Enron staff lost their jobs and their pensions when several years of false auditing caught up with the company. From the courthouse in Houston, here is Guitar Harry.
It was clear from the somber look and tone of the judge that this would be a tough sentence, Jeffery Skilling was calm and composed though clearly disappointed, he has maintained throughout this trial that he was innocent, but he is now the man paying the heaviest price for one of America's greatest corporate failures. Before the sentence was passed, Jeffery Skilling listened to former Enron employees calling him a thief, a lier and a drunk. The judge told him that Enron's collapse had imposed life-sentence of poverty on thousands of people.

It's been a day of anti-government protests in the Hungarian capital Budapest where crowds had gathered to mark the 50th anniversary of Hungarian's uprising against Soviet rule, police use tear gas, water cannon and rubber bullets to disperse protestors, 40 people are reported to have been injured. The spokesman for the police D.Y said Demonstrators outside parliament had broken an agreement to protest peacefully.
The organizers over the K square demonstration broke the agreement, concluded with the police, and for this reason, Budapest's police chief in agreement with the national police chief emptied the area and declared it an operational zone which by the way is currently being inspected by police experts. The considerable quantity of sharp instruments which are a danger to public security show that it had lost its peaceful character.

Police in Britain have questioned the former leader of the Opposition Conservative Party in connection with a political scandal in which the main political party is alleged to have nominated wealth donors the seats in the Upper House of Parliament, the House of Lords. The former conservative leader Michael Howard said he 'd agree to be interviewed as a witness and there was no suggestion that he himself had commited any criminal offence. Political commentators say the fact that Mr Howard has been interviewed makes it more likely that the Prime Minister Tony Blair could also be questioned in connection with the cash for honor scandal. The Scottish National Party originally raised the issue of loans for peerages with the metropolitan police. Peter G is the party spokesman.
"This is absolutely sensational staff, after it was a wrecked skillful political events, this could be off the skill and it totally vindicates the SNP reporting all this matters to the metropolitan police. only a few years ago, Yes, they were laughing then, but they are not laughing now."

With pressure mounting on Britain and the United States to consider a change of their strategy in Iraq, both governments have increased their efforts to get the authorities in Baghdad to do more to tackle the growing violence. In Washington, a senior White House advisor Dan B said the Iraqi government must take more responsibility for security although he stressed there was no threat to withdraw American troops.
"This is not a matter of them not understanding their responsibilities or us putting pressure on. Secretary Rice has recently flown to Baghdad and made that very clear, that the president in his conversation with Prime minister Malaki has made that clear, and the Iraqi governemnt themselves understands that they have to take on more control. It is a very difficult environment right now, and it's important that we do it in a way that is responsible so the Iraqi government doesn't quit as a result of pushing too much on them, but we understand there is a sense of urgency."
In London, The Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister B.S said after talks with British leaders he hoped that up to half of the country's provinces would be brought under Iraqi security control by the end of this year.

Iraqi police say at least eight people have been killed in four separate bomb attacks in the capital Baghdad. Three of the bombs targeted at the security forces, a fourth went off in a crowded street. In other incidents, the United States military officials said five Ameircan soldiers were killed in Baghdad and six died in fighting in the restive province of A, west of the capital.
