This morning in Health Watch a very sticky issue for doctors who proscribe antidepressants. On Wednesday [屏蔽] Health Official heard arguments that those drugs actually raise the risk of suicide in some patients.

Where does this concern come from?

Right, well, we have to remember about 9 percent of adults had any given time during a year, 8 percent of adolescence would have a depression during the particular year. Now doctors have been treating patients for many years with antidepressants. The question has been, in some cases, does that use of antidepressant early on when they are first getting treatment increase the risk that the patient might have suicide of thought or / even commit suicide. That’s been discussed, now, for several years. We know, from previous study that in children and adolescence there appears to be an increased risk that they would have this suicidal thinking. What was new, yesterday, within an analysis of new data / looking at whether or not, er, / that might extend to other age groups.

So, this new data said what?

This new data actually found that this risk does extend up to people 25 and under. All right. So what do you do if you are under the age of 25, and you are bearing depression and your doctor wants to put you under antidepressants(right)? How do you know if it’s gonna // work for you again ?

Right, all the most / the important thing in and this is what many doctors who treat patients in America Psychiatry Association is concerned about is that people will see this black box warning label though.
