My dad got his leg cut off in the farming accident. And at that time their artificial legs was made out of paper with varnish and they were put around the mold. Then there was cables at the ankles that connected the legs to the foot. There was rare resting time which we said of his leg. One time, we were delivering mining materials. And there was a timber checker. That was up on top of the truck. And he had to look at every timber that we were unloading. And they had pulled all those timbers out of these steps and the guy’s artificial leg caught and as he turned, it led out a pretty loud pop and he said “ Oh Darn. I think I broke my foot. And he sat down on the round board of the truck. The foot was completely broken and it was turned at the right angles towards they should be. And he called that foot A S and he straightened and developed. And he cracked and popped on and over. And he said, “Oh Darn. the ankle is broke.” Then he climbed back onto the truck and timber checker had turned white as cotton. They wouldn’t think anything about it.

Several years later over long, Dad’s brother, had run into the guy. And he asked, “Are you er came onto that bomb hill that used to deliver mining materials? My father Lon said, “Sure, seems that’s my brother.” The timber checker said, “I’ll tell you one thing. That’s the toughest man I’ve ever seen.” He broke his foot and climb back and finished on that natural truck. Lon Vaughn was left so hard. Tears were rolling back the cheeks. But he never did tell the guy that they are artificial legs.
