A curfew is in effect now in the Iraq city of Karbala, it was put in place after a suicide car bomber targeted at a crowded shopping area in the holy city, killing at least 43 people, and wounding 55.
Shortly at the Karbaka attack, another Bagdad bridge was hit. 10 people was were killed when that bomb exploded. It is the second bridge to be struck this week.
New has emerged of 2 French aid workers and 3 Afghan co-workers kidnapped by the Taliban in Afghanistan. The video was obtained Saturday by Reuters news agency. Weeping as they speak, the French workers beg their government for help, warning they’ll be beheaded by their Taliban captors. So far there’s been no comment from Paris on the vedio.
Russian security forces arrested scores of demonstrators in Moscow at the start of a rally against President Vladimir Pukin. Former world chess champion turned political activist Garry Kasparov was among about 170 people detained. He says his arrest was a clear indication of Russian’s increasing authoritarianism. “Hell you leaders! This, this regime is /, is a police state. They arrest people everywhere, because they scare stiff.” The demonstrators say President Pukin’s administration is both tyrannical and anti-democratic.
New Jersey governor Corzine is in stable condition today after a successful surgery to clean tissue in his broken leg. Doctors say Corzine is still unaware of his surroundings and his breathing on a ventilator. Corzine suffered major injuries after sever car crash on Thursday. Aids say Corzine was not wearing his safe belt. Police now say they have located the driver of the red pickup truck that apparently caused the accident. They say the driver was unaware that he caused the accident and will not be charged. A leading British newspaper is reporting that Prince William and his longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton have called a quits. Observers say the intense media coverage focused on the couple contributed to the breakup. The two met in 2001 in St Andrews University in Scotland.
