BBC World News with Johnson Wakly.

President Bush has exercised his right of veto and rejected the bill in congress that would tie funding for the war in Iraq and Afghanistan to a timetable for American troop withdrawal from Iraq. He said the bill put the views of politicians before that of the military and took no account of the situation on the ground. “It makes no sense to tell the enemy when you plan to start withdrawing. All the terrorists would have to do is mark their calendars and gather their strength and begin plotting how to overthrow the government and take control of the country of Iraq. I believe setting a deadline for withdrawal would demoralize Iraqi people, would encourage killers across the broader Middle East, and send a signal that America will not keep its commitments. “ The senate majority leader appealed Mr. Bush to recognize that he put US troops into a civil war in Iraq and that a change of course was needed.

We have truly nationalized Venezuelan oil. We have nationalized our natural resources.”
