    5come5帮你背单词 [ hunter /'hΛntə/ n. 猎人 ]

Hello and good Saturday to you, I'm Stacey Elgin at the CNN center in Atlanta. Here is a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

Pakistan's interior minister was treated in the hospital after a suicide bombing. Police say it killed at least twenty-eight people. The minister was speaking at a rally in Charsaddah when the attacker tried to approach. Security guards blocked the man who then set off the bomb. The minister is hospitalized with minor injuries. Two of his security guards were killed. More than forty other people including the minister's son are also injured. Pakistani officials say they believe/ the bomber was from Afghanistan.

In Karbala, Iraq, a suspected suicide bomber killed at least fifty-five people and injured more than eighty. The explosion happened near a shrine dedicated to Prophet Muhammad's grandson. A car bomb / exploded in the same area on April 14th, killing 47 and wounding 224.

With Congress and the White House on a collision course, the key players have agreed to try to seek common ground on funding for the war in Iraq. Congressional leaders will meet President Bush Wednesday to discuss the possibility of a compromise. Congress has approved a war funding bill with a timetable for withdrawing US troops. President Bush says he'll veto that bill and he's demanding a new funding bill without a timetable.

Former CIA Director George Tenet says he's a scapegoat, blamed, defamed and hang out to dry for pushing the war in Iraq. Tenet claims a comment he made in 2003 that infamous "slam-dunk" on Iraq's purported WMDs has been taken out of context to wreck his career. He tells "60 minutes" ahead of a book launch it's the worst thing that ever happened to him.

White House Counselor Dan Bartlett denies Tenet's description of a rush to war without serious debates, saying the President (quote) "did wrestle with those very serious questions".

Light rain is pushing back stubborn wildfires in Southeastern Georgia. But that is encouraging firefighters who have been battling fires that have burned more than 65,000 acres of swampy pine forest over the past two weeks. More than twenty homes have been destroyed. The smaller blaze was contained a week ago but high winds kicked up the flames again on Thursday. About sixteen miles of highway, one connecting Waycross Georgia to Jacksonville Florida remained closed.

And if you love music, New Orleans is the place to be this weekend. The "Big Easy" is kicking up its hills as the second post-Katrina Jazz Festival. It's a shore sign of culture, recovery, twenty months after the deadly storm. Expect headliners like /, Rod Stewart and Norah Jones today. And things got started yesterday with a Jazz funeral parade for CBS newsman Ed Bradley. Bradley who died last year was a huge Jazz fan and a regular at the New Orleans Jazz Festival. Revelers danced in the streets, parading Bradley posters in loving tribute. The festival runs through next weekend.

Well, you're now up-to-date. For more on these stories and other news of the day, CNN is the place to turn on line, TV or on your wireless gadget.
