12 people have been put on trial in China over the use of slave labor in brick factories. The 12 have been charged with murder, illegal detention and false labor. From Beijing, Daniel Griffith reports.

“This is the latest development in the story that has caused widespread anger here in China. Last month, it emerged that adults and children as young as eight were being held captive and force to work long hours for nothing in brick factories in central China. The factories were run like prisons with guard dogs and beatings to prevent escapes. This trial is expected to be the first of many connected to the scandal. More than 150 suspects have been arrested. The Chinese authorities say they’ve rescued more than 500 enslaved workers so far.”
