There is not a style Joy Hark has not attempted, a camera angle he hasn’t tried, and technologyhe hasn’t sampled. He is truly a forerunner of TV generation. But his films are not style over substance. He invited and encouraged new writers and directors to work with him by stating simple goals , develop your own style. There must a point to resume. It must and makes audience feel better. Hopefully , we will become with the audience because they go to movies to feel not to understand. Joy Hark collaborated with million of many of the reverting new talents either as producer, director or writer. Amongst them is the director of the greatest contemporary calligraphers yuan wu ping. Every ten years I noticed martial arts films , the energy, the genre began to die down, and he did something that will blossom the genre for another ten years. There will be at least 4or5 years ,people copying him. Yuanwuping obviously, he was one of the pioneer, one of his specialties actually, is acrobatic movements. If you notice the skirt knee shadows or some of his early works, there is a lot of acrobatic elements in it. With the stools, with the chopsticks, you see he is groping by them. I think with his experience, and talents, mastery in the art he still has a open art heart like a child. That is why I love him so much. I think he inspired me not only in making martial arts scenes.
